How to get your brand recommended by ChatGPT
1. Check where you stand first
Ask ChatGPT the questions your buyers ask — “best [category] for [audience]”, “[you] vs [competitor]”, “is [you] worth it?” — and note whether you appear, where, and which sources it cites. That is your baseline.
2. Let AI crawlers in
Make sure your robots.txt does not block OAI-SearchBot (used for ChatGPT search) and GPTBot. Check that your CDN or firewall is not silently blocking bots. Pages should render their main text in HTML, not only through JavaScript.
3. State who you are, plainly
Your home page and About page should say in one sentence what you sell, who it is for, and how it is different. Use the same wording on LinkedIn, Crunchbase, G2 and directory profiles. Add Organization and Product or Service structured data.
4. Publish answer-first pages
For each buyer question, create a page that answers it in the first two sentences, then gives detail, a comparison table and an FAQ. Comparison pages (“X vs Y”, “alternatives to Y”) are especially likely to be used in AI answers.
5. Get into the sources ChatGPT trusts
ChatGPT's search answers lean on review platforms, industry roundups, Reddit threads, and well-known publications. Find the pages it cites for your category and work to be included: pitch the authors, earn reviews, answer questions in communities honestly.
6. Fix wrong or outdated facts
If ChatGPT repeats an old price or a solved complaint, update the source it is drawing from — your own pages, review profiles and directory listings.
7. Re-test monthly
Run the same questions every month and track your mention rate. Changes usually take weeks, not days.

Can I pay OpenAI to have ChatGPT recommend my brand?
Organic ChatGPT answers are not for sale. Any ads OpenAI shows are labeled separately from the answer, so earning organic mentions still depends on the steps above.
How long does it take to show up in ChatGPT?
When ChatGPT searches the web, new pages can be picked up within days to weeks after they are indexed. Answers from the model's built-in knowledge change only when the model is retrained.
Does SEO help with ChatGPT?
Yes. ChatGPT search draws on web search results, so pages that rank and are well structured are more likely to be used. But third-party mentions matter more than for classic SEO.
Should I block GPTBot?
If you want to be recommended by ChatGPT, do not block OAI-SearchBot. Blocking GPTBot only stops use of your content for training; many brands that want visibility allow both.
