How to check if AI mentions your brand
Step 1: Write the questions
Use four types of questions:
- Category: “What is the best [category] for [audience]?”
- Comparison: “[Your brand] vs [competitor] — which is better?”
- Problem: “How do I [problem your product solves]?”
- Brand: “Is [your brand] good? What do people say about it?”
Step 2: Run them cleanly
Use a logged-out or new chat with memory off, so past conversations do not bias the answer. Run each question on the same day in every assistant. Save a screenshot and copy the answer text.
Step 3: Score each answer
A simple scheme: 0 = not mentioned, 1 = mentioned late or negatively, 2 = mentioned in the middle, 3 = mentioned first or clearly recommended. Total the points and convert to a 0–100 score.
Step 4: Compare and find causes
Do the same for 3 competitors. Where they appear and you do not, look at the sources the assistant cites — those pages are usually the reason.
Step 5: Repeat monthly
AI answers vary from run to run and change as models update. Track your score monthly rather than reacting to one answer.

Why does ChatGPT give a different answer each time?
AI answers are generated fresh each time and can vary. That is why an audit uses many questions and looks at patterns, not single answers.
Is there a free tool to check AI mentions?
You can do it manually for free using the method above. Paid monitoring tools and audits automate the runs, scoring and competitor tracking.
Should I test while logged in?
Test logged out or with memory off. Logged-in sessions can be personalized and give a misleading picture.
How many questions are enough?
20–30 well-chosen buyer questions give a reliable picture for most brands.
